Your smile deserves the best care possible. Now, we know oral hygiene might seem easy and simple, but it’s actually quite easy to improperly clean your teeth and gums. If you’re not careful, your smile can reap the consequences. So, to help you know how to properly brush your teeth, Dr. Stephen Woodard has some instructions for you.
First, reach for your soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Then, put a pea-sized amount of paste on your brush and begin scrubbing. Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gumline and scrub with circular motions.
Clean the front surfaces of the teeth first and then move to the chewing surfaces. You can use back-and-forth motions to clean the chewing surfaces. Then, clean the back sides of the teeth by tilting the brush vertically and then using the tip of the brush to clean the enamel. Make sure to clean one tooth at a time and you scrub each tooth.
When you’re done brushing, feel free to scrub the top surface of the tongue. This helps remove bacteria and freshen your breath. Then, spit out the toothpaste, rinse your toothbrush, and then rinse your mouth. Finally, spit the water into the sink and place your toothbrush in an area where it can air dry.
